![]() ![]() “And your son is stable too other than being small, there aren’t any obvious signs of illness. Especially when everything was settling down now. Having the goliath that was Endeavor look at her with worried puppy eyes while sitting beside his tiny son wasn’t something she had been prepared for so early this morning, but it wasn’t a sight she complained about. “Your wife is resting you can visit her once she’s woken up.” She said with a reassuring smile. A nurse entered the unit, and started checking on the various wires and lights of the incubator before she addressed the new father and grandfather. “It doesn’t get better.” Enji dragged a hand down his face, exhaling through his nose heavily. “First time father nerves.” The older Todoroki said as he patted his son on the shoulder. Enji thought his nerves were going to strangle him. “I’m sure the nurses will inform us.” They stayed in a moment of silence together, just watching Touya as the sky outside turned from an inky black to a light blue. “Do you think Touya will always be small?” A stressful worry Haruo had lived with the entire three years of the hero course. Enji had always been big for his age, to the point people mistook him for an adult by the time he joined UA. “I’m unsurprised.” He replied without taking his eyes off his son. “You were a behemoth of a baby, you know that?” Enji snorted. Seeing him calm soothed what remaining nerves were jittering in his brain and he returned to looking at his son. “Hello Touya.” His voice softened, smiling fondly at the little sleeping baby. “Soon, I only got to see her for a moment before she sent me away.” Haruo nodded, taking a seat besides his son as he looked into the incubator, seeing his newborn grandson. “Can I go see her?” He asked almost timidly, as if seeing his wife was a privilege that could be easily taken away. Enji let out a breath he didn’t realise he was holding, and his shoulders drooped. Rei thinking about others before herself even when she was the one needing the most care sounded very much like her. She told…mm… Ordered me to come check up on you and Touya.” His father replied with a small, amused smile. Physically, she’s fine, but she’s going to need rest. “How’s Rei?” Enji asked hurriedly, a slight panic in his tone. Enji’s whole body jolted as a hand laid on his shoulder and when he looked up, saw the tired but warm expression of his father. He became blind and deaf to the world as he watched his undersized son rest in what he hoped was a peaceful sleep, not noticing someone approach. ![]() He had a tube in his tiny nose, which pained Enji to witness, but he understood it was necessary. That was his son, his firstborn, his little light.Ī warm feeling bloomed in chest as he watched over Touya through the material of the incubator, the newborn making a small shift in his position. With red hair, tiny little eyelashes and small hands wound tightly into fists, Touya was the most gorgeous sight Enji ever saw. Touya was born four weeks prematurely, in the early hours of the 18 th January. He needed to find a way to settle his nerves, so he ran through the facts in his mind as he stared down at the new little human that was his son. His only comfort was knowing his small son was currently in stable condition.Īs the morning lights started peeking through the window and snapping Enji out of his semi-shocked state by blinding him, the redhead sighed and leant forward in his chair, properly looking at little Touya for the first time. It had only been a couple hours but the lack of updates on Rei made them feel like years. So here Enji was, sitting stiffly by the NICU incubator his small son was sleeping in. Haruo promised to stay as close to Rei as the hospital would allow, waiting outside her room in the hallway. Initially Enji had been torn between staying with his wife and leaving to keep an eye on their newborn, but Rei had none-too-gently made the choice for him when she ordered her husband to not let their son be alone. The suddenness of going into labour put a painful amount of stress on her body, which had forced the nurses to keep her in intense recovery while Touya was taken to the neonatal care unit without even a second for either Haruo or Enji to process what was happening. This was a shock to everyone, especially Rei. ![]() Normal among premature babies apparently, but not what Enji had prepared himself for.
